Public Consultation of the Methodology TERO.003 – Carbon Stock in Forests is open!
TERO.003 – Carbon Stock in Forests is an Agriculture, Forests and Land Use (AFOLU) methodology, in this first version, focused on the Amazon Biome. It brings as an innovation the generation of two environmental assets: (a) Verified Carbon Stock and (b) Verified Carbon Credit, both represented by one ton of carbon dioxide equivalent (tCO2e). The commitment period for projects that opt for this methodology is unlimited and can be renewed periodically, upon communication to the certifier and the market.
Assets are generated through the preservation and increase of biomass stocks in all forest areas on rural properties, including the Legal Reserve (RL) and Permanent Preservation Areas (APPs). The objective is to encourage activities that keep the forest standing, generating assets (credit and carbon stock) that benefit rural owners who demonstrate their contribution to mitigating climate change.
The Verified Carbon Stock of the project area may be renewed periodically through the new submission of the Sample Forest Inventory (IFA) and its verification, carried out by Tero Carbon and an independent audit. If an increase in carbon stocks in the forest is found, a Verified Carbon Credit will also be generated in the amount exceeding the maximum stock previously measured.
The methodology, within the concept of Payment for Environmental Services (PSA), has the co-benefit of maintaining and preserving biodiversity and water resources. Forestry activities are also accepted as a way of enriching carbon stocks.

After approval by the Public Consultation mechanism, the TERO.002 – REDD Methodology Version 1.0 is launched and ready to receive projects.
Our dedication to the transparency of procedures and community involvement in methodology discussions is a fundamental value present in all our certifications. By rigorously following these principles, we have reached the final stage of version 1.0 of the TERO.002 – REDD Methodology, ensuring compliance with all requirements.
The steps taken to complete version 1.0 were:
- We provide the PDF containing the TERO.002 – REDD Methodology and an online form open to the public during the period from 05/22/2023 to 06/21/2023. This public consultation process allowed people to express their opinions, suggestions and doubts, promoting democratic participation and opening up space for different perspectives.
- From 06/22/2023 to 07/23/2023, we carefully analyzed all contributions received through the public form, taking into account the suggestions and criticisms presented. This review demonstrates our commitment to valuing public feedback and making informed decisions.
- Today, on 07/24/2023, we are pleased to announce the publication of version 1.0 of the TERO.002 – REDD Methodology. This final version reflects the entire public consultation process and incorporates the contributions received, ensuring full transparency in the development of the methodology.
On 08/23/2023, at 2 pm, we will hold an online seminar to provide an overview of the TERO.002 – REDD Methodology and to interact with the public on the feedback and suggestions received. Soon we will provide more information about the event.

The Public Consultation of the TERO.002 – REDD Methodology is open and will receive comments and suggestions from interested parties until 06/21 at 11:59 pm.
The TERO.002 – REDD Methodology has as its main objective the generation of verified carbon credits from forestry projects through Avoided Planned Deforestation (APD) in the Amazon Biome. REDD stands for Reduction of Emissions from Deforestation and Forest Degradation.
The approach in this methodology is based on environmental impacts, focusing on keeping the forest standing, on the preservation and conservation of biodiversity. Eligible rural properties include both public and private properties with natural forests in the Amazon Biome.
The objective of the public consultation is the collective contribution to the definition of a methodological approach, which is essential for the implementation of actions that promote environmental preservation and sustainable development.

Public Consultation of the TERO.002 – REDD Methodology will be launched soon.
We will launch a new public consultation for the TERO.002 – REDD Methodology, which has as its main objective the generation of verified carbon credits from forestry projects through Avoided Planned Deforestation (APD) in the Amazon Biome. Version 1.0 of the TERO.001 – REDD+ Methodology was completed and is now available.
One of the main pillars of every certification is the transparency of its processes and the attempt to involve society in the discussion of issues related to its methodologies.
The steps described below are the roadmap followed to meet all the “checks” and reach the completion of version 1.0:
- 12/15/2022 a 01/14/2023 – We make available to the public the PDF with the TERO.001 – REDD+ methodology and the online form for the public to collaborate with their suggestions, criticisms and doubts;
- 01/15/2023 a 02/06/2023 – We review all contributions from the public form which will be taken into account in our next update.;
- 02/10/2023 – The v1.0 of the TERO.001 – REDD+ methodology was published;
- 02/14/2023 – We held the online seminar to provide an overview of the TERO.001 – REDD+ methodology and also to interact with the public’s feedback and suggestions.
