TERO.002 – REDD
Eligibility
ITEM | DESCRIPTION |
Geographical Limits | The limits of the Project Areas (APs) must be fully inserted in the Amazon Biome |
Mosaic | The use of a single rural property or a grouping of mosaics is allowed |
Type of Rural Property | Private rural property or Conservation Units with the prerogative to generate environmental assets |
Forest Type | Native or planted natural forests of native and/or exotic species |
Sizes | Rural property of at least 5 hectares and at least 1 hectare of forest in the Project Area |
Regular Property | The property needs to be properly documented and with macrozoning carried out in the Rural Environmental Registry (CAR) and without overlapping with other areas, public or private. It is also necessary to present a legal opinion on Land Diligence |
No Double Counting Guarantee | The project area cannot have a Carbon Credits project or any other asset linked to the Carbon environmental asset, registered and/or certified by another “standard/methodology” in the same crediting period |
Activities | It is necessary to carry out at least one of the activities provided for in this methodology |
TERO.002 – REDD
Additionality
In the absence of a project such as the Reduction of Emissions from Deforestation and Forest Degradation (REDD), the existing forest outside the limits of the Legal Reserve Area (ARL) and the Permanent Preservation Areas (APP), that is, in the Area of Multiple Use (AUM), would be deforested or degraded for the implementation of alternative land use. Thus, the carbon stored in the forest would be emitted in the form of carbon dioxide equivalent (CO2e), through the burning and/or decomposition of tree biomass.
TERO.002 – REDD
Time Limits
The duration of the project (commitment to “Zero Deforestation”) varies according to the class of rural property, as follows:
SIZE | PROJECT DURATION PERIOD |
Small Property (up to 3,000 hectares) | 1 (one) year |
Medium Property (between 3,000 and 20,000 hectares) | 5 (five) years |
Large Property (above 20,000 hectares) | 10 (ten) years |

Additional Benefits (Co-Benefits)
The additional carbon benefits, or co-benefits, for projects whose methodology is REDD, is the conservation and preservation of the largest terrestrial biodiversity on the planet, that is, it is the guarantee of maintaining the evolutionary cycles of biodiversity.

There are no people on my property. Is this methodology for me?
Yes. The AFOLU TERO.002 – REDD methodology was developed with the co-benefit of conserving and preserving the greatest biodiversity on the planet.
There are social co-benefits in my property, which methodology to use?
The AFOLU TERO.001 – REDD+ methodology is the best choice for projects with social co-benefit (sustainable development).
Is it possible to generate retroactive credits using this methodology?
No. The methodology considers the beginning of the project to be the date of certification, and cannot generate carbon credits for a verification period retroactive to the Certification.
