The Land Tenure Compliance Seals are an instrument of transparency and credibility within the Tero Carbon Certification Program for Nature-Based Solutions (NBS) projects in the AFOLU (Agriculture, Forests, and Other Land Uses) sector. This version 1.0 establishes criteria to attest to the land tenure regularity of areas where projects aimed at mitigating climate change in Brazil are developed.

This document covers all types of NBS projects, regardless of scale, and considers both carbon credits and carbon stocks. In addition, it encompasses all forms of mitigation, whether based on avoidance/reduction of emissions or the removal of carbon from the atmosphere.

The document presents the necessary requirements for the validation and verification of an NBS project’s land tenure compliance, including essential documents and geographic information for this process. It also establishes the criteria for a project to achieve different levels of recognition within the program—from obtaining the Bronze Seal to progressing to the Silver Seal and ultimately attaining the Gold Seal. Additionally, it defines the rules for losses and downgrades, ensuring the integrity and credibility of the projects over time.
