Overview
The TERO.001 – REDD+ Methodology (Version 2.0) was developed by Hdom Consultoria Ambiental to guide the measurement, reporting, and verification (MRV) of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions reductions and removals in Nature-Based Solutions (NBS) projects within the AFOLU sector. In public consultation since its publication on 04/02/2025, this methodology establishes rigorous technical criteria that ensure the integrity of the verified carbon credits (tCO2e) generated.
By integrating initiatives for Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Forest Degradation (REDD+), the methodology encompasses projects targeting both Avoided Planned Deforestation (APD) and Degraded Area Restoration (RAD). For APD projects, for example, the waiver of the legal prerogative for alternative land use—replacing vegetation suppression with uses that respect the limits of Legal Reserve Areas (ARL) and Permanent Preservation Areas (APP)—forms the project baseline, adopting the tonne-per-year method to safeguard the credits. In contrast, for RAD activities, a buffer reserve approach is used, providing an additional layer of security against non-permanence risks and leakage.
Among the key technical aspects are the guarantee of additionality, the implementation of robust mechanisms to mitigate risks, and the rigorous analysis of land tenure compliance. These guidelines ensure that land use rights comply with environmental directives, contributing to the reliability and transparency of the projects.
This methodology has been designed to meet the demands of the voluntary carbon market, promoting the adoption of sustainable practices in the AFOLU sector.
